Week Five Recap - Mantua
After what seemed like weeks of very hot weather, we got a break and were treated to a cool night to enjoy a fantastic dive meet and see our Warriors come out ahead with the 40-32 victory in the last meet of the season, to finish off with a 4-1 record.
The recurring them this year was teamwork. I know diving is typically thought of as an individual sport, but we had another meet where people brought their A game to earn much-needed team points. Those third place finishes can make or break a meet as each point earned is actually a two point swing in our favor. In an 8 point win, our 6 third place finishes won the day. Team depth is important, every diver on the team is important.
First, the personal bests: Savannah Potter, who remarkably earned a personal best each week of the season, steadily improving week-to-week. Joining her were Hayden Shelton, Greta Kirchoff-Johnson, Morgan Shelton, Sandis Walker, Luke DiBenigno, Joseph Nixon and Kate Mulvaney.
First place winners were Logan DiBenigno, Gavin Simpson, Ellie Joyce, Max Jolley, and Luke DiBenigno. Coming in second were Molly Cooper and Joseph Nixon, both of whom had extremely close finishes above the third place finisher. Their strong performances were critical in this one. Our 6 third place finishers were Cameron Kirchoff-Johnson, Greta Kirchoff-Johnson, Luke Jolley, Riley Shelton, Grace Dennis and Luke Dangel.
Another special acknowledgement goes to Luke DiBenigno, who not only dove up an age group with the seniors, but won the age group...so many team players in this one.

Cracker Jack Results
Nine of our promising young divers braved the heat and drive to Fairfax to compete in the Cracker Jack meet at Sideburn Run. Dominion Hills was represented well and came away with some impressive finishes. Big thanks to our coaches who were outside, by a pool, for about 7 straight hours. Alyx, Lily and Luke were simply amazing.
This is typically a very big event, and this year there were almost 300 participants! Getting a top 12 finish at this meet is a great accomplishment.
Earning top 12 finishes were Connor Myers (6th in 6yo Boys), Cameron Kirchoff-Johnson (11th in 7yo Boys), Levi Fullen (10th in 9yo Boys), Sandis Walker (5th in 11yo Boys) and Payton Cooper (2nd in 12yo Boys)
Aiden Robinson, Audrey Wheeler, Parker Myers, and James Gallagher were unable to crack the top 12, but looked fantastic against difficult competition.
Full results from the day are available on a google doc here.
All Arlington Meet
Dominion Hills hosted the annual All Arlington meet on Thursday, and despite our only having one diving board, we should be proud of how well we did as hosts. Thank you to all the parent volunteers to helped us get though the largest dive meet I've ever seen at Dominion Hills. I'll get to the diving in a bit, but the real highlight of the night (and the fist of may "awww" moments) was the impromptu singing of the National Anthem by a group of about a dozen of our youngest divers representing each of the four Arlington pools.
On to the results...
Congratulations to Connor Myers, Abby Putnam, Amelia Rizzo and Tyler Wells for earning first place awards. Ryan Gallagher, Cameron Kirchoff-Johnson, Bella DeFilippi, Payton Cooper and Sarah Low each earned second place ribbons. While Maki Bush and Parker Myers each earned third place finishes.
Data from the entire B meet is difficult to secure, but, we do have all the scores and finishes from the Dominion Hills divers here
Week Four Recap - Hunt Valley
In a matchup between the only two remaining undefeated teams in the division, DH fell short of Hunt Valley by a score of 42-30. We knew this was going to be a tough one, so we moved people around to try to get as many points as we could, but we just fell a bit short. Still there were many positives to take away from this exciting meet against a very good team.
Congratulations to Abby Putnam for working hard getting her dives and competing in her first A meet!
In addition to Abby, Morgan Shelton, Sandis Walker, Dakota Bannach, Luke DiBenigno and Joseph Nixon all earned personal bests. Savannah Potter earned a personal best for the fourth consecutive week in a row! Keep up the good work everyone!
Coming in with first place finishes were Gavin Simpson, Ellie Joyce and Luke DiBenigno. Finishing in second place: Savannah Potter, Riley Shelton and Grace Dennis. Earning third place ribbons were Jane Perry, Charlie Morrison, Morgan Shelton, Luke Jolley, Joseph Nixon and Luke Dangel.
This was another meet when we needed some divers to step up and compete in an older age group, and this was especially important this week to put up our best shot against a very balanced team. Dakota Bannach and Luke DiBenigno answered the call, and Luke even won first place in the older age group. Well done!
Be sure to come out next week for our final meet at home against Mantua.

Wally Martin Memorial Meet
On Sunday, Dominion Hills was represented by two divers.
In the 3 meter Intermediate Girls event, Ellie Joyce earned first place and Riley Shelton was ninth.
In the 13+ Synchro event, Ellie Joyce and her teammate Jocelyn, from Kent Gardens, earned second.
Nice job girls!
Week Three Recap - Ravensworth Farms
This was one of those amazing team efforts where each event was close against a very good team. Vacations and injuries happen and this was one of those meets when we were down a few. It's in meets like this when people step up by diving up an age group that put us over the top. After being edged out of the first three events, we caught up in the middle age groups, then put them away with our dive-ups and came away with a 39-33 win and the team now sits at 3-0 on the season. Such an amazing team effort!
First off, we did have some personal bests tonight. Congratulations to Jane Perry, Savannah Potter, Audrey Wheeler, Greta Kirchoff-Johnson, Morgan Shelton and Ellie Potts for improving on their previous high marks!
Earning blue ribbons for first place finishes were Gavin Simpson, Ellie Joyce, Luke DiBenigno and Grace Dennis. Earning 3 points each and second place ribbons were Molly Cooper, Charlie Morrison, Greta Kirchoff-Johnson, Luke Jolley and Riley Shelton. Third place finishers were Savannah Potter, Levi Fullen, Morgan Shelton, and Ellie Potts.
As mentioned earlier, the divers diving up an age group against older kids really made the difference tonight. The team asked them to step out of their comfort zone and secure some critical team points. They were Ellie Potts, Riley Shelton and Max Jolley. Together, they got us a total of 4 points, but essentially swung the meet in our favor. If they don't dive up, we don't win this meet.
I can't wait to see what this team has for us next week on the road at Hunt Valley.

Week Two Recap - Sleepy Hollow Bath
It took us about two days, but we finally got the meet in following a night of waiting out thunder delays on Tuesday. Further complicating matters, SHBR could not host the meet the following day because the storm flooded their pool and knocked out their power.
But, we Warriors came together and were able to offer up our pool for the meet Wednesday afternoon. Many thanks to all the parent volunteers that were able to come out and help us get this done, and an extra special thanks to John Aldonas who worked with us to get this done. We are fortunate to be part of such a supportive community.
The good news doesn't end there. Dominion Hills came away with the big 47-25 victory on the strength of some outstanding diving!
First, let's all congratulate Audrey Wheeler and Ian Bradley, who competed in their very first A meet! Thanks for hanging in there with us through those delays...a first meet to remember, for sure!
In addition to those two, 10 other divers established new personal bests this week: Savannah Potter, Molly Cooper, Hayden Shelton, Levi Fullen, Charlie Morrison, Morgan Shelton, Paige Shelton, Gavin Simpson, Dakota Bannach, Ellie Joyce, Ellie Potts and Joseph Nixon. Getting better and developing skills is what we're after, so this is an impressive list.
Sometimes we need divers to step up and dive and age group older to fill in for absences. Our senior girls were all out this week, so thank you to Ellie Joyce for diving up with the seniors, who also broke the Senior Girls pool record!
As a reminder, the first three place finishers in each event earn points for the team. Every little point is so important - it really takes everyone to have a winning meet. The following first place finishers each earned 5 points for the team: Charlie Morrison, Gavin Simpson, Ellie Potts, Max Jolley, Ellie Joyce, Austin Bannach. Getting three points each were the second place winners: Levi Fullen, Paige Shelton, Dakota Bannach, Luke DiBenigno, Luke Dangel. Finishing in third place, earning one point each: Molly Cooper and Luke Jolley.
Thanks again to all the parents for coming out and bringing your kids in the middle of a work day. Hopefully the rest of the meets complete on time!

Week One Recap - Lakeview
If only we could bottle that weather for each week of the season. It was a beautiful night for diving, and our Dominion Hills Warriors were up to the task against a strong opponent and came out with the 38-33 victory on the strength of our really impressive younger divers getting their first taste at an A meet.
Some numbers: 12 of our 18 divers earned points for the team by finishing either 1st, 2nd or 3rd. 11 divers established new personal bests. Four divers participated in their first A meet and a 26 year old team record fell.
A big welcome and congratulations goes out to Olivia Maco, Hannah Ax, Savannah Potter, Jane Perry and Cameron Kirchoff-Johnson for diving in their first ever A meet. You guys all did great - the future of this team is, indeed, bright.
Other divers setting new personal bests were Molly Cooper, Logan DiBenigno, Greta Kirchoff-Johnson, Luke Jolley, Ellie Joyce (who also established a new DH record for Intermediate Girls), Ellie Potts and Kate Mulvaney.
DH earned five first place awards! Congratulations to Molly Cooper, Logan DiBenigno, Gavin Simpson, Ellie Joyce and Grace Dennis. Earning second place awards were Olivia Maco, Luke Jolley and Luke Dangel. The third place finishers can make the difference between winning and losing a meet, and this week was no exception - Hannah Ax, Jeb Bachrack, Luke DiBenigno and Kate Mulvaney also contributed points to this incredible team win.
