DH Dive Team - week of June 21 - June 25

Hello DH Dive Families,

We hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend! The dive team had another great week of diving and we look forward to the fun week ahead!

Please keep your eyes open for weekly emails that will be sent on Mondays providing the list of divers that will compete at the upcoming Tuesday evening A meet & B meet. Also included will be updates to the schedule & team happenings.

Dive Team happenings this week:

  • All Tuesday morning practices are for ONLY the divers heading to that evening’s A meet (see this week’s list of eligible and available divers below). These divers are encouraged to attend multiple practices if possible. All other divers can enjoy the morning off!
  • Volunteer and diver availability is needed for the upcoming meets (& events)! This list will be used when choosing divers for each meet - it's your responsibility to keep it updated. Because we have a limited number of divers that can participate in each meet, it is necessary for coaches to know in advance if your diver is available (or not) so we can ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate in meets. To do so, please log in to Swimtopia and open the calendar: https://dhwarriorsdive.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. There, you will see two green boxes beside each event: Job Signup and Meet Entry. For the Meet Entry indicate which meets your diver will be available. For the Job Signup, indicate which volunteer opportunities you’d like to sign up for. Once you sign up, you will be sent an email that provides more information regarding the job and/or a short on-the-job training session will be available at the beginning of your shift.

Below is the list of available & qualified divers for tomorrow evening’s A meet at Highlands Swim & Dive Club located at1515 Bryan Branch Road McLean, VA 22101.

Our annual Dive Season Kick-Off Party & Demo Meet is this Friday, June 25 starting at 6:30pm! Think of it as a chance to hang out with your new dive friends on a Friday night. Bring your own food & beverages and enjoy learning more about the sport of diving by watching some of our coaches demo dive! Food and drinks will be enjoyed from 6:30pm-7:30pm on the front lawn and in the DH Community House. Bottles of water & popsicles will be provided.

Starting at 7:45pm (after cleaning up) everybody can head down to the dive well (no food allowed) to learn how dives are scored. We encourage new parents to shadow experienced volunteers who will be training folks at the poolside Judges’ Panel. This night is always a great way to start our dive season!

A few extra details for this week:

      • Please note – Divers need to meet their coach in front of the baby pool entrance on time for practice. They will be escorted to the dive well through the baby pool and will exit practice through the baby pool as well.
      • If you have a child who is participating in both swim and dive practice please let up know so we can let the coaches know when to expect them.
      • Welcome to the newest members of the team! Please read past emails that are located under the News section on the Swimtopia homepage to get updated.
      • Last but certainly not least – volunteers are needed to become the next Dive Reps. This is perfect time to get started shadowing us to learn the ins and outs of being a Dive Rep. Typically Reps volunteer for two seasons. I have been a Rep for the past nine seasons and Thomas has been a Rep for the past four seasons. When I started as a Rep the team only had thirteen divers and now we have fifty-six divers! We’ve work hard to grow our beloved team and it would be really sad to see it fall apart because nobody steps up.

As always, looking forward to another super week of diving! Feel free to contact us with any questions!

      Angela & Thomas
