DH Dive Week 2 email
Dear DH Dive Families,
Well week one is behind us and we had it all, weather closures, technical problems – all providing a glimpse of how interesting a dive season can be. As we continue with our pre-season practices, just a quick reminder that we have practices this week Tuesday through Thursday at 7, 8 or 9. To avoid the crowds at the early practices, please try to come to the latest one you can.
As you all have seen the Board has returned the pool to full capacity. In the announcement, the pool has stated: “Per CDC and state guidelines, if you are vaccinated, you are not required to wear a mask. We ask that all unvaccinated members continue to wear masks while in the bath house or community room.”
Other COVID measures that we’ve instituted for practices are still in place, including the entrance/exit procedures (in through grill gate, out through upper gate by baby pool). The pool is closed at 7:00 for our practices and the bathrooms are cleaned and all trash cans are emptied. Until practices shift to the morning, the pool decks will remain unavailable for watching practice. You can still observe practice from outside the fenced areas. Please continue to send your divers to the pool dressed in their bathing suits ready for diving.
There are two league-run training sessions this week that we strongly recommend attending. Both are at Arlington Forest Pool (on Carlin Springs Road, up the hill from Kenmore Middle School), so it’s a great opportunity to attend these classes without traveling across Fairfax County. These classes are outdoors but are being streamed on Zoom in this COVID affected year, let us know if you would like the online meeting information.
Meet Workers Clinic – This Saturday, June 6th at 8:30 AM – Arlington Forest
This is a great way to learn about how dive meets are run and what the roles of the people at the table are. Attendance is not required to volunteer for a meet. This class will not be offered again this season.
Judges Clinic – This Saturday, June 6th at 10:00 AM – Arlington Forest
I cannot recommend this class enough to both new and experienced parents. At these clinics, you’ll learn what the divers are attempting to do and can help prepare you to judge an actual meet someday. If you are new to diving, odds are, you have had no prior experience with the sport. So if nothing else, this is an opportunity to learn about what your child is doing, including the directions (forward, backward, inward, reverse) and positions (tuck, pike, straight) and how each are supposed to be performed, and can help explain the scores your child receives in a meet – it’s about more than just the size of the splash. Also, The Olympics are coming up, so you can also use this to learn all about diving and impress your friends and family!
If you miss this judging clinic, there are two more scheduled on 6/15, and 6/23. See the website calendar for those details.
This year, they are eliminating the printed handbooks/rule books. If you are an official, or hope to be one, or are just interested in reading the league rules, it can be accessed online at https://dive.mynvsl.com click on “NVSL Handbook” on the left side of the page.
As always, don’t hesitate to reply if you have any questions or concerns.
