DH brought a group of scrappy spirited divers to divisionals today against some tough competition. All told, DH had two All Star qualifiers and three alternates, so on with the details....
Top 6 finishers earn medals and top two qualify for All Stars. We had two first place finishers in Logan DiBenigno and Ellie Joyce, who both qualified for All Stars next Sunday.
Reid Schwartz, Charlie Gent and Riley Shelton earned fourth place finishes, and remain All Star alternates in case the qualifiers cannot attend.
Luke DiBenigno was also a medal winner with his 5th place finish.
Two divers even set personal bests in this meet, which is difficult to do at Divisionals. Congrats to Morgan Shelton and Joseph Nixon!
What a fantastic (nearly) end to the season and we with our All Star divers much luck!
Week 5 Results - Wakefield Chapel
What a night. We said hello to our new awesome national anthem singer, Helen Butler, and goodbye to our teammate Luke Dangel, whose diving career came to an end tonight, and we wouldn't have had that meet go any other way. It was a lot of fun against a fun opponent, with awesome weather. Well, of course the win would have been nice, but nights like this remind us that it's not always about the W's and L's. Oh yeah, DH lost by a score of 42-30.
As the season winds down, we're getting fewer personal bests set, but a huge congratulations goes out to the star of the night, Eleanor Goehring who was our only personal best of the night and earned her first 1st place finish in the freshman girls group!
Diving in their first A meets tonight were Maki Bush and Alexis Locke. Welcome to the club!
In addition to Eleanor, other first place winners include Logan DiBenigno (for the season sweep of 5), and Ellie Joyce (who earned first in all four meets she was in).
Second place winners were Heili Shattuck, Reid Schwartz and Riley Shelton.
Third place winners were Zach Mathieson, Hannah Ax, Abby Putnam, Sandis Walker, Dakota Bannach and Luke DiBenigno.
See you all at the banquet!
DH sent 9 divers to the annual, gigantic, Cracker Jack meet this year, and boy oh boy did we make our presence known. Medaling (top 6) at this meet is a huge accomplishment and we walked away with 6 medal winners, including one for first place yay Zach! We also had set four new personal bests and two divers made their competitive debuts!
Let's start with the medal winners:
Zach Mathieson earned first place in 7 year old boys! While setting a new personal best.
Thomas Dombrowski earned 3rd place in 8 year old boys, also setting a new personal best.
Eleanor Goehring (3rd) and Helen Butler (5th) both medaled in the 9 year old girls group.
Madeleine Dombrowski finished 6th in 10 year old girls
Hannah Ax finished in 3rd place in 11 year old girls, missing first place by a mere 0.15 points!
Also joining in the fun were Olivia Tighe and Mia Carbone each making their career competitive debuts and setting career highs. Maki Bush made his season debut in this meet.
The full official meet results can be found here.
Week 4 Results - Chesterbrook
In what started out as one of the warmest evening dive meets in recent memory, DH was on fire on the boards as we pulled away with the victory over Chesterbrook 38-32. There were a total of 14 personal bests tonight, and one diver making their debut, so let's get right to it.
DH Dive Team came away with five first place finishes, each earning 5 points for the team. Congrats to Logan DiBenigno, Hannah Ax, Charlie Morrison (making his season debut), Ellie Joyce and Luke DiBenigno.
Finishing in second place and securing 3 points each were Kian McMahon, Riley Shelton and Charlie Gent (Who dove up an age group to help secure a DH Senior sweep)
Third place finishers were Hayden Shelton, Paige Shelton, Ellie Potts and Luke Dangel
Congratulations to Zach Matheison, who competed in his first ever A meet!
And, finally establishing a new personal best were Eleanor Goehring, Audrey Wheeler, Logan DiBenigno, Zach Matheison, Hannah Ax, Hayden Shelton, Paige Shelton, Abby Putnam, Charlie Gent, Kian McMahon, Riley Shelton, Luke Dangel and Joseph Nixon. Love to see the improvement week to week!
Next week will be our final meet of the season and senior night.
Wally Martin Results
On Sunday, a team of four DH divers made their way to Oakton for the annual three meter competition, two of whom had never before been on a 3M board.
Big shout out to the brave Thomas Dombrowski, who finished in 13th place.
Congrats to Ellie Joyce for wining the Senior Girls event, and also to Riley Shelton and Ellie Potts for finishing in 8th and 10th, respectively. Props to Ellie Potts for coming up with a full list of 6 senior dives having never done 3M before...that was clutch!
Week 3 Results - Hayfield Farm
This is one of those meets when the meet result was closer than the final score would indicate. We had many competitive events and did an awesome job against a very good team, but tonight, we fell 42-30. We also learned we have a fantastic national anthem singer. Well done Helen Butler, that was awesome!
Congratulations to Andrew Aldonas who made his A meet debut tonight, and therefore, also set a brand new personal best! I'm sure it's the first of many. Congratulations also go out to Gavin Simpson and Hannah Ax, two veteran divers who set new personal bests in their season debuts! Also big shout outs to Sandis Walker and Thomas Dombrowski, setting their second personal bests of the season...we love the improvement!
As far as the team points earners go, Logan DiBenigno (1st) and Joe Matheson (3rd) placed in the Freshman Boys group.
Reid Schwartz earned first place in Junior Boys.
DH Swept the Intermediate Girls events, with Chloe Schwartz (1st), Morgan Shelton (2nd) and Paige Shelton (3rd) earning us 9 points! Gavin Simpson finished 2nd in Intermediate Boys.

Week 2 Results - Tuckahoe
Dominion Hills made the (short) trek back to McLean to face the Tuckahoe A team after meeting their B team less than a week ago. The weather was certainly an improvement over the prior week, but the team feel short 50-21.
But, let's not let that overshadow some fantastic individual performances, including an impressive eight(!) divers diving in their first ever A meet, add in six divers who also set their personal best, and that's 14 personal bests in one meet!
A good number of divers stayed after to take their best leaps off the 3M high dive...look for more of those highlights in the end of season video!
Congrats to Jane Perry who earned a second place ribbon in the Freshman Girls age group, Jane also set a personal best along with Maia Shattuck. Diving in their first ever A meet were Eleanor Goehring and Madeline Dombrowski!
In the Freshman Boys, Logan DiBenigno won for the second consecutive week, while setting a new personal best. Joe Mathieson finished second. Thomas Dombrowski dove in his first A meet.
Our only Junior Girl in the meet, Hayden Shelton, finished in second place!
Reid Schwartz earned second place in the Junior Boys age group and also set a new personal best.
In the Intermediate Girls, Chloe Schwartz competed in her first A meet and also joined Morgan Shelton and Paige Shelton in setting new personal bests!
Kian McMahon competed in his first A meet and earned a third place finish in the Intermediate Boys group!
Riley Shelton earned a third place finish in senior girls and Morgan Leathwood impressed while competing in her first ever A meet as a Senior Girl.
The two Luke D's (Luke DiBenigno and Luke Dangel) earned second and third places, respectively, in the Senior Boys group.
The full results can be found here. Looking forward to our first home meet next week!
B Meet at Tuckahoe
DH sent a team of 7 divers to Tuckahoe for our first B meet of the year. This meet was run a bit differently than regular A meets in that place finishes were not tracked, and the inexperienced judging panel was learning right along with the divers. After the meet, we were treated to some of our divers taking a brave leap off of their 3 Meter high-dive. Watch for those highlights in the end of year video!
Five of our divers dove in their first meet ever. Welcome to the club, Madeleine Dombrowski, Thomas Dombrowski, Eleanor Goehring, Alexis Locke and Zach Mathieson!
Returning divers Bella DeFilippi and Sarah Low did very well in their return to competitive diving.
Scores of the DH divers can all be found here.
Week 1 Results - Highlands
Well, it wasn't the warmest of weather for a dive meet, but it was awesome to be back at a meet again. I know the kids had a GREAT time. This team has some spirit!
DH pulled out the win by a score of 38-32, but this was about much more than that tonight.
There were so many great performances including 5 divers competing in their first meet, 11 personal bests, and a new team record, so let's get right to the details.
In the freshman girls, Helen Butler finished in 2nd place in her first ever meet, and Audrey Wheeler came in third, also a huge congrats to Maia Shattuck who also dove in her first meet and all three girls set personal best scores. Great Job!
Freshman boys took the gold and silver by Logan DiBenigno and Joe Mathieson, respectively. Both boys set personal bests and Joe dove in his first ever meet!
Key performance of the night goes to Olivia Maco. We didn't have any 11-12 year old divers for this meet tonight but Olivia really helped out the team by diving up an age group, and even won the Junior girls event! Excellent job Olivia! Olivia grabbed first place by a mere .05 points to snag 5 critical team points! Olivia also set a personal best tonight.
Our lone Junior Boy tonight finished in first place in his first ever meet. Congrats to Reid Schwartz!
Abby Putnam and Morgan Shelton did well in the Intermediate girls by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Charlie Gent and Sandis Walker swept gold and silver in the Intermediate Boys event. Charlie earned a first place win in his first ever meet!
In the Senior Girls event, Ellie Joyce broke her own team record from 2019 in winning the event. Ellie Potts set a new personal best in her fourth place finish.
For Senior Boys, Luke DiBenigno finished in second place.
